The Role
As a Sales Engineer, you’ll be a key technical member of the Sales Team, bringing expertise into every stage of the sales process. You’ll design smart, practical, and profitable technology solutions that solve client challenges while maintaining company standards and margins.
You’ll collaborate with vCIOs, vCISOs, TAMs, the CTO, Project Managers, Vendors, and Professional Services Engineers to turn client requirements into clear, deliverable solutions.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role where precision, communication, and teamwork are essential.
What You’ll Do
- Work as part of the Sales Team to move opportunities forward and present clear, value-driven solutions.
- Design and scope standardized, scalable, and supportable solutions aligned to First Call’s technology standards.
- Balance solution fit, standards, and margin while preparing quotes, proposals, and technical diagrams.
- Coordinate with vendors on pricing, design validation, and SKUs; manage discounts and vendor relationships.
- Use quoting/configuration tools (ConnectWise CPQ, distributor portals) to deliver accurate and timely quotes.
- Leverage AI tools (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) and vendor programs to improve speed and accuracy.
- Document solution designs for delivery hand off and ensure clarity for implementation teams.
- Track requests, quotes, and estimates—ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
- Maintain awareness of market and technology trends to improve solution design and team performance.
Solution Types
Tier 2 – Core Infrastructure Solutions
Focus: Solution design + vendor coordination, balancing fit, standards, and margin.
Examples: Switching, wireless, firewalls (SMB), servers, SAN/NAS, hosted VoIP, M365 migrations, racks/UPS.
Tier 3 – Complex / Strategic Solutions
Focus: Architecture, complex integration, multi-vendor coordination, and strategic discussions.
Examples: Multi-site networks, hybrid/cloud DR/BCP, enterprise UC, advanced security stacks, datacenter buildouts.
Tools You’ll Use
- ConnectWise Manage (PSA), ConnectWise CPQ (Proposals)
- ITGlue, Kaseya (RMM), Vendor platforms
- Lucidchart or Visio for diagrams
- Microsoft 365 Suite & Teams Phone System
- Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot
What We’re Looking For
- Experience (by tier):
- Tier 2: 3–5 years as a Tier 2 Engineer
- Tier 3:3–5 years as a Tier 3 Engineer
- MSP experience strongly preferred
Education:
Bachelor’s in Information Technology, Business, or related field preferred
Technical Breadth:
LAN/WAN infrastructure, cloud, security, Microsoft 365, VoIP (depth varies by tier)
Soft Skills:
Strong client communication, consultative selling, collaboration, and vendor management
Certifications:
Cisco, Microsoft, Security+ a plus
